So you’ve booked your shoot; now what?
So you’ve finally gone and done it, booked the shoot you’ve been thinking about for months. No more eyeing up all the shoot photos posted on insta and wishing it were you, or thinking that someday it’ll be you. Your doing a fucking photoshoot!!
Firstly, congratulations on making that leap. It’s a daunting one to finally commit to something like this, but I can assure you you’re not going to regret it.
Now, onto what happens next.
You will have secured your shoot with a non refundable deposit payment, that means you’re officially booked in, and it’s up to you whether you want to pay for the remaining shoot balance as one lump sum, or split over instalments. We’ll discuss over email and go with whatever suits you best.
If you haven’t already, we’ll discuss what location you want to shoot in. I have a handful of gyms in the area, some private, others public, which I often use, but if you’ve got a location in mind then I’m more than happy to go with that - I will however check directly with the gym that they’re happy for us to shoot.
Once that’s all decided, it’s time for you to decide what you’re wearing for your shoot.
If you’ve gone with a bronze package, you’ll only have to decide on the one outfit, but if you’ve gone with the gold package you get unlimited outfits to play with.
Decide what type of vibe you’re after for your shoot (more on that in a minute!), whether you want more or less skin on show, and if you want some bright colour or to keep it toned down with blacks or neutrals. If you’ve got multiple outfits included in your package, then you can always switch it up and go for totally opposite outfits for your shoot, this can make for a great level of variation in your final images.
Onto the vibe that I mentioned earlier.
Something I always recommend doing is creating a folder of screenshots, a saved collection on instagram, or even a pinterest board of images you like the look of. Whenever you spot an image from a gym shoot that you really like and could see yourself in as part of your own gym shoot, save it!
Then when shoot day comes around, you’ll have a nice collection of images to show me that will give me a super clear idea of the mood you want for your shoot.
Every client is different, I have some clients who want to go for a really sexy gym shoot feel, and others who want a slightly tougher look to their shoot. There isn’t a way of knowing what a client will want by just looking at them, so I ask you to do this in order for me to create the exact series of images you will love.
You’ve decided your outfits, you’ve put together a mood board for your shoot, next you need to decide what you plan on doing with hair and makeup, and if you’d like to get a spray tan done too.
When it comes to hair and makeup, this is entirely up to you. Hair down gives us a little more to play with, but hair up can give a more “active” feel, depending on how you style it. Go with what works for you, what makes you feel your best.
The same goes for makeup, some clients come in totally bare faced, some minimal makeup, and others go all out. It’s what you’re comfortable with, what makes you feel good, and what ties in with the vibe of your shoot.
Following that, your next decision is a spray tan. This isn’t a compulsory part of your shoot, although I often recommend it.
Tan brings out some natural definition, and if you’ve got any tanlines, a spray tan can even this out and save me time on some lengthy editing. Do your research, ask around (I’m still in the process of trying to find someone I can recommend to my clients!) and make sure to get it done a few days ahead of your shoot so it has time to process and leach out any of the excess.
Finally it’s shoot day - ahhhhh!!
You will feel nervous come shoot day, everyone does and it’s completely understandable and normal. You’ll also be feeling a little bit excited, this is a fun step into the unknown!
We’ll meet at our chosen location, have a little chat about your shoot, decide on any outfits, and then we’ll start with some lighting tests and gently ease into your shoot.
As soon as we’ve taken those first few shots, you’ll feel those initial nerves begin to melt away, making way for you to really start enjoying yourself.
I’ll guide you through various poses, be your number one hype gal, and make you feel like the most stunning woman to have walked the earth, all whilst having plenty of laughs and sprinkling in some looks at the back of the camera so you can see what an amazing job you’re doing as model for the day.
Once we’re done shooting, I’ll walk you through the next steps of choosing your images out, the amount of time you can expect on image turnaround, your viewing session, and any talk you through potential wall art options that you might like to consider.
And that’s it! You’ve had your shoot, you feel amazing, and now you’re buzzing to see how everything has turned out.
