Top Tips for Photoshoot Success!

You’ve decided you’re finally going to book the shoot you’ve been dreaming of doing for FOREVER, now you’re wondering how to best prepare the get the most out of your experience. Here’s my top tips for preparation ahead of your shoot, and things to do during.

  1. Create an inspo folder

This is great for both getting excited about your shoot and helping you get a clear idea of what you want from your shoot. Create a folder in your phone; every time you see an image that you like the vibe of, or that you’d like to recreate for your shoot (this could be the posing, styling, vibe of the image, lighting, etc.) then add it to the folder. On shoot day, show this to your photographer so you’re both on the same page about what YOU want for your shoot.

  2. Plan outfits in advance

PLEASE do not leave it until the last minute to decide what you’re wearing for your shoot. Take the time to plan out outfits, if you’re buying anything for your shoot then purchase well in advance in case you need to return items (we all know how tricky buying clothes online can be!), and if you’re well and truly struggling with what to wear, bring a selection of options along to your shoot - your photographer can help you make the best choice and take some of the stress out of choosing what to wear.

  3. Go easy on the fake tan

Fake tan can be great for covering up tan lines or just adding a base colour to your skin, but keep it very light. Orange fake tan tends to really “pop” under the studio lights, which means extra editing time to reduce the orangeyness of fake tan in your final images. Opt for a lighter tan, or even no tan at all - Some of my clients have been very pale and still look stunning in their images.

  4. Remember this is about self love

I don’t encourage my clients to diet for their photoshoots (For those who wish to diet, this is your shoot, so I want you to show up how you want to; your body, your choice), and every client who has made the conscious decision not to diet has been glad of it. They felt less pressure in the lead up and had an even greater level of appreciation for how they looked in their final images.

A photoshoot is about celebrating you and loving the skin you’re in, don’t pressure yourself to change anything, turn up in your year round condition and sink into that self love, queen.

I hope you’ve found these tips helpful and that you’re feeling even more excited for your empowering photoshoot experience, but if you want even more information on the photoshoot process, then check out this blog for more of that.

And if you have any questions about photoshoots, I’d love to hear from you either via instagram or email.
