Age is just a number
I’ve been lucky enough to grow up with a mother who never saw age as a limitation, and even into her 60’s she continues to embrace new experiences with gusto. In just the last few years she made the decision to reclaim her health and climbed Snowdon and Scafell Pike, she toured Europe solo on her motorbike for 4 weeks, camping as she went, and also tried her hand at ziplining, paddleboarding, and various other fun things.
The reason I’m saying this is that I have a strong belief that age is just a number, that life doesn’t stop at 40, and even though I’m not even 30 yet, I know that life has so much more left to give. I’m excited to get older.
In this month’s blog I’m celebrating that theme with clients who have either reclaimed their health and fitness, found a love of strength spots, or continued to be an absolute beast in their chosen sport past 40.
I adore working with clients who are moving through life with this kind of gusto, there’s a magic to them, a lifeforce that gets you excited to live, and they remind you that it doesn’t matter where you are in life, you’ve got to live it.
So here’s a glorious selection of my incredible clients who are over 40 and absolutely smashing life!
Becks found her love in boxing - although this powerhouse comes across as an absolute sweetheart, she’s a weapon in the ring and a real grafter at the gym. Since then she’s continued boxing but also found a love of strongwoman, powering her way through multiple competitions and making a name for herself in the sport.
When I first met Claire she was working in a bodybuilding style of split, reclaiming her body after a difficult period in life. Since then I’ve seen her thriving on the powerlifting scene, pushing incredible weights and even competing at a world championships, all in the space of just a year - what an icon!
The legend that is Donna Moore; 3x wolrds strongest woman, plus multiple other champion titles and podium finishes. This woman is an absolute force, known in the sport for the incredible athlete that she is, but despite all of her success she remains a wonderful down to earth person who just wants to see even more women succeed in the sport.
Karen is a body positive personal trainer who is passionate about getting women in the gym and moving their bodies in a way that makes them feel amazing. From her own personal experience she’s found that lifting heavy has given her a new love of her body, feeling stronger and sexier than ever because of it all!
Jules is one of my gorgeous Strong Queens Club ladies who decided to celebrate this year by having her very own shoot. A strongwoman athlete who has competed in many a strongwoman competition, including the Arnolds, coming away with some cracking results. This year she has made the decision to put strongwoman on the backburner for a moment to focus on training for an Ultramarathon that she’ll be running next year.
I remember seeing Sharon at my first ever powerlifting competition and being in absolute awe of her back then, and even now I’m in full admiration. She’s a total machine under the bar, one of the hardest workers there is, with numbers and titles to back it up. But she’s also utterly hilarious and one of the kindest humans you’ll ever meet.
